Cedar Club!

As we wrap up the final week of league play, I wanted to reach out to thank you all for making my first year as your Club President an absolute pleasure. I think I only heard a couple of you complain throughout the session, I’ll take that as a win.

The Cedar Club had a lot of non-league action to be proud of this year, Host of the first Brew City Open, and host of the final year of Nick Currans legendary SMACK tournament. We are excited to see David Brock take over SMACK and revitalize one of the city’s best tournaments.

Following this last week of League, we are anticipating our newly formatted Club Championship on April 12th, We look forward to seeing everyone at the club to celebrate the culmination of a great season.

I also want to thank a few key people who have helped make this season run so smoothly:
  • Brad Schmieding: Your S.H.I.T. system is invaluable. Thank you for putting together the monthly schedules and ensuring everything runs like clockwork. Sit back and watch the S.H.I.T work!
  • Brad Seefeld: Thank you for keeping our Kegerators stocked with beer and water every night. We eagerly anticipate your return to paddle so you can join the schedule one night a week.
  • Jon Feldbruegge: Your facilitation of the Vodka (maybe next year Tequila) Alliance is greatly appreciated.
  • Jon and Dan Einhorn: Thank you for everything you do to make our tournaments the most anticipated events of the year. I think we anticipate the SWAG almost more than the tourney.
  • Farley: I am not sure what the consolation bracket is going to look like for the newly formatted Club Championship…. but the work you do on the website is amazing. Thanks!
  • Tommy Lehman: The Pizza Man! Thanks for keeping the fridge stocked with fresh, always frozen Za.
  • Drew: Thanks for keeping the top 25 on their toes.
  • David Brock: For all you do!! Seriously, we have Brock to thank for finding the new court reservation software. HUGE upgrade.
  • Deb Doughty: You operate under our radar, but do a fantastic job of running the Women’s league! Thank you, we look forward to hosting some Co-ed Mixers next season!
The Cedar Club truly thrives because of its members. Thank you all for continually making it paddle’s hidden gem.
Now, for some news you may not want to hear. The rumors are true, there will NOT be a Summer League. This decision is mainly due to the noise complaints we received last summer. While some of you may have joined since 2020 and believe paddle is a year-round activity, the sport’s foundation and history tell a different story. We encourage you all to stay active, go play Pickleball, Golf, or Softball. Please respect the club’s decision to slow down activity around the club this summer.

We will reconvene around August to bring some new member mixers and to open up Saturday open paddle, so you may have a few weeks to polish up your game for the October start of the 2025-2026 Season.

We also hope to have a few maintenance projects happening around the club this summer. Please reach out if you are willing and able to help with any projects we might be trying to take on.

See you on the court!
Your President,

Martin Vertacnik – MVP
