Thursday, July 11th

You’d have to go back more than 50 years to view a tennis match with this much riding on it… not since Billie Jean King defeated Bobby Riggs in 1971 in the Astrodome.

Announced just today, The Cedar Club’s own Drew Lied (currently ranked #3 at the club and former NCAA Michigan State standout) will be taking on Jamie Loeb (former NCAA women’s singles champion, #132 in the WTA and girlfriend of  Byron Balkin) at UW-Whitewater’s tennis facility on Thursday, July 11th at 5pm — best 2 out of 3 sets.

Vegas already has a line on it (Drew +325 / Jamie -400) and the game spread is Drew at +5.5. It’s rumored that ESPN has the rights to streaming the event, and currently, both camps are in negotiations to secure some free swag from the local Kwik Trip.

There’s no price for admission, but there will be a cost to someone’s ego.

If you remember your tennis history, it did not end well for the bombastic Mr. Riggs. Women have trumpeted this victory for decades. No pressure, Drew.

I’ll make sure to record this one and sign an NDA so no one knows the score until I post the video…. would be an absolute electric watch party.
