A New Generation of Cedar Club Ownership
Dear Cedar Club Members and Friends,
For nearly 24 years, one important debate has never been resolved:
Are we a paddle club with a strong social side, or a social club that occasionally
plays paddle?
We still don’t know. And honestly, we like it that way.
Back when we started this whole thing, there wasn’t a formal business plan, no advisory
board, no market research and no PowerPoint presentation (not even sure PowerPoint
was around back then!). Just a few friends who loved playing paddle, hanging out by a
fire, and finding a reason to hang out with our “winter friends”. We began with 20 guys
and 6 women—and limited expectations. Today, we’re over 100 strong, with a
community that’s just as likely to welcome you with a cold beer as with a sharp one-
liner.
Because let’s be honest: “If you’re looking for compliments, this may not be the
club for you.”
That spirit—warm, inclusive, and slightly sarcastic—is what defines The Cedar Club.
Every new member tends to fall into one of two categories:
“I love paddle—where do I sign up?”
“I’ve heard about this place… what is paddle, how do I join?”
Either way, you’re in. Because this isn’t just about paddle tennis—it’s a one-of-a-kind
club with a unique culture. A come-as-you-are, we-don’t-take-ourselves-too-seriously
kind of place. It’s the late nights, the trash talk, the tournaments, the garage banter,
lifetime friendships and the sense that you’re part of something special.
But sustaining this glorious chaos takes real effort. Behind the paddle matches and fire
pit storytelling, someone’s always keeping an eye on the vision, fixing what needs to be
fixed and making sure the beer kegerator stays full. With that being said, alas, now it’s
time to hand off that responsibility to the next generation.

We’re excited to introduce your new ownership group:
David Brock, Nick Creten, Jon Feldbruegge, Pat Laughlin, and Martin Vertacnik.
They’ve been around. They get it. They live it. And most importantly, they understand
that “If you don’t like the way we do things at the Cedar Club… get your own
garage.”
This team is committed to preserving everything that makes The Cedar Club what it
is—while also having the energy to keep it running efficiently and keep the trains on
time. Expect a follow-up from them soon with their thoughts on the future.
Don’t worry:
they’re not changing the beer policy.
As for us—you’ll still see us around. Playing, watching, heckling. The roles may
change, but the friendships don’t.
Thanks for helping us build something we couldn’t have imagined 24 years ago—and
making it a special place that has lasted longer than any of us planned.
Cheers,
Beany Welch, Eric Arvold, Woody Alverson & Brad Brogan
